MD5 is a legacy checksum, not a password hash. This page uses SparkMD5 on ArrayBuffer or string, locally, so you can verify downloads without sending the file to a “md5 online” host that keeps a corpus.

Text hashing uses the library’s JS string path. File hashing uses ArrayBuffer. Collision weakness is why the UI warns against password storage. For integrity of modern files prefer SHA-256 on this site.
