Under the Hood: The Architecture of Argon2 Hash Generator
Password-hashing as a service is a contradiction. Argon2id here runs in hash-wasm (WASM) in the tab: password, salt, memory KiB, iterations, parallelism 1, 32-byte hash, encoded PHC string. Nothing is sent. Use it to generate test hashes, not to outsource your KDF.
Memory Allocation & Browser Threading Mechanics
Argon2 is memory-hard by design. The memorySize parameter (KiB) is the heap the WASM module will try to allocate. Keep it modest in a tab (the default 4096 KiB is a demo, not a production calibration). Work is async; busy flag disables double-submit. The UI thread can hitch if memory is set extremely high—that is the algorithm, not a network stall.
Algorithmic Deep-Dive: Code Snippet & Logical Analysis
const encoded = await argon2id({
password,
salt,
iterations,
parallelism: 1,
memorySize,
hashLength: 32,
outputType: "encoded",
});Encoded output includes algorithm, version, m/t/p params, salt, and digest so verifiers can parse one string. Empty password still hashes; empty salt may throw depending on the library—surface the error. This is not bcrypt; do not mix formats.
The Local Storage Sandbox & Volatile Data Pipelines
Password sits in an input of type password but is still JS heap. Close the tab after use. No localStorage of hashes.
Verifying True Privacy: How to Audit Your Browser's Network Tab
F12, Network, clear, hash a dummy password. Search HAR for that password. Zero hits. WASM load is a static .wasm/js from this origin, not your secret.
